Perfectly Imperfect

If I tell you
that love made the world
and that you are made for love,
and that you are perfectly imperfect
right now
will you believe me?

joy-full and generous
alive in your body
creative
gorgeous
tender
wild

will you
stop
right where you are
sharing your heart across coffee and
Tres Leches?

just for one moment
close your eyes
go ahead – do it
and remember
what’s real

to hell with the detractors
who live out of fear

that is no company to keep

Fill yourself up
beloved
Your living and love have always been
more…
much
more
than illusion

I think you have a cape
inside
that peeks out
underneath your costume
sometimes
hard as
you try to conceal it

It doesn’t
save the world
or the ladies
or embue
divine graces

it is deeper

it’s folds bears witness to
the cloud of love
that raised you
wanting more
than any child
can give

it holds the painstaking
way you have
made your way thru
the rivers of loss
and
beauty
wet
shivering
and
so
perfectly
imperfect

if I could
I’d tell you
again
“this is only the beginning”
and you would say,
“somewhere inside,
my heart says, “YES!”
 tres leches

I thought of Ivy while reading this. Were you writing to her? To yourself? I love the “If I tell you” perspective.
